This Privacy Policy explains how HotNotch handles information. HotNotch is developed by Mehras Hojjat ("Developer", "we", "us").

HotNotch is designed to run locally on your Mac. We do not operate analytics, advertising, or user-account backends for normal app use.

Information We Do Not Collect

During normal operation, HotNotch does not:

HotNotch does not ask for or require your email through the App. If you choose to open a support or submission form, any Google account information collected is handled by Google, not by us through HotNotch.

We do not require you to create an account to use HotNotch.

Information Stored on Your Mac

HotNotch stores configuration locally on your device, including:

This data is stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS preferences in the app's container. It remains on your Mac unless you export it, delete it through the App, or uninstall HotNotch.

macOS Permissions

HotNotch may request macOS permissions so features you enable can work:

Permission data is handled by macOS. HotNotch uses these permissions only to perform features you configure. You can review or revoke them in System Settings.

HotNotch may also register as a login item if you enable "Open at login". This is handled locally by macOS.

Network Activity

HotNotch does not send your settings to Developer-operated servers.

The App makes network requests only when you browse or install presets in the full version. In that case, HotNotch contacts GitHub over HTTPS to list and download preset configuration files. If you open external links from the App (such as the HotNotch website or Google Forms for bug reports, feature requests, or preset submissions), those services are governed by their own policies.

Feedback and Submission Forms

HotNotch includes optional links that open external forms hosted by Google Forms when you choose to report a bug, request a feature, or submit a preset configuration. We do not host these forms on our own servers.

When you open and submit a form, you leave HotNotch and use Google's service directly. Google may record information associated with your Google account — including your name, email address, and profile photo — especially when you upload files or are signed in to Google. Google displays this notice on the form itself. HotNotch does not receive, store, or access your Google account credentials or profile through the App.

We do not collect your email address through HotNotch for these submissions, and the form does not require you to enter contact details. We may receive the content you voluntarily submit (such as your description, attachments, or any optional fields you fill in) through Google's form response tools solely to review and act on your bug report, feature request, or preset contribution. We use that information only for support and product improvement related to your submission — not for marketing, mailing lists, or unrelated purposes.

Google's processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Mac App Store Purchases

If you purchase HotNotch through the Mac App Store, Apple processes payment and related transaction information. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple may provide us limited purchase-related information needed to deliver the App, in accordance with Apple's policies.

Your Rights

Because HotNotch does not maintain a personal account or collect personal data on Developer servers during normal use, most information is under your direct control on your Mac. You can export, reset, or delete local configuration through the App, or remove all local App data by uninstalling HotNotch.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise rights or ask questions, contact support@hotnotch.app.

Children's Privacy

HotNotch is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International Transfers

HotNotch itself does not transfer your local settings to Developer servers. Optional preset downloads may involve GitHub, which may process data outside your country (including the United States), as described in GitHub's privacy policy. If you submit a bug report, feature request, or preset through Google Forms, Google may also process data outside your country under its own privacy policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, the copy published at https://hotnotch.app/privacy. Material changes will be reflected in the in-app version of this document.
